From COVID-19 to Cancer: The Expanding Role of mRNA-Lipid Nanoparticles
Targeting cancer with mRNA–lipid nanoparticles: key considerations and
future prospects.
Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, 2023, 20, 739–754
.
📌Significance :
mRNA–lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have been undergoing research as therapeutics applications and
vaccines development including COVID-19. Till now many of these nanoparticles are preclinical
studies into the clinic and some of the materials are commercialized in clinical applications.
The mRNA-LNPs can successfully and safely deliver mRNA payloads designed to target various
tissues and cell types. The preclinical and clinical studies platform hold great potential for the next
frontier in oncology treatment.
.
📌Importance of lipidology :
Lipid nanoparticles form using common components including a phospholipid, cholesterol, a ‘stealth’ lipid,
and an ionizable lipid which can provide the basic information of vehicle properties.
.
📌Connectivity to other fields :
This review article helpful to expand the lipid related research into the mRNA delivery and vaccines
developments.
